imperial college london
At Imperial College London, I served in a temporary role as Strategic Senior Teaching Fellow at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2018 until 2020. In this role, I did not teach, but was asked "to provide leadership to the introduction, development and evaluation of innovative and effective teaching methods and educational approaches". The work was part of the framework of Imperial's new Learning and Teaching Strategy. In this role, I gave feedback to staff, we discussed about good pedagogy in the various subjects of civil and environmental engineering, carried out educational research, and worked on further improvement of both UG and MSc curriculums.
My Skempton Teaching Newsletters for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering provided several ideas for and examples of good practice in engineering education:
I found it an honour to work for some time at this world renowned college, with incredibly bright teaching staff from all over the world. During these 2.5 years, I've probably learned even more myself about teaching than I was able to convey to others. As it happens, it is very inspiring to discuss teaching approaches with other academics in the same subject, and it was the interaction that made it a helpful experience for IC and for me.
